DUSU Election Result 2026: Yash Dabas, Vijay Shankar Meena Trade Leads in Close Race
DUSU Election Result 2026: Vote counting continues as ABVP’s Yash Dabas and NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena repeatedly trade the lead in the presidential race at Delhi University.
As counting progressed, Yash Dabas initially moved ahead in the presidential contest, before Vijay Shankar Meena took the lead. Dabas subsequently regained the advantage, only for Meena to move ahead again. The changing trends kept the presidential contest closely watched during the counting process.
Independent candidates were leading in the vice-president and joint secretary contests, while ABVP was ahead in the secretary race. Counting for the four central DUSU posts — president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary — was underway at Delhi University.
The DUSU elections recorded a voter turnout of 40.46 per cent on Friday. The contest between ABVP and NSUI came months after a youth protest at Jantar Mantar, which had brought questions of accountability and student concerns into focus. Last year, student elections held across most Delhi University colleges recorded a voter turnout of 39.45 per cent.
Before the DUSU central panel results, ABVP won several college union elections across Delhi University. The organisation secured a clean sweep at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), winning the president and secretary posts as well as both councillor seats. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-affiliated organisation said it had performed strongly in the college elections and secured clean sweeps at several colleges.
ABVP also expressed confidence in securing a 4-0 victory in the DUSU elections despite efforts by the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). ABVP vice-presidential candidate Ishu Maurya said the organisation was confident of a decisive victory, stating that it expected to achieve a 4-0 result.
In last year’s DUSU elections, BJP-backed ABVP won three posts, while the Congress-affiliated NSUI secured one. ABVP’s Aryan Man won the president’s post, Deepika Jha secured the joint secretary’s position and Kunal Chaudhary won the secretary’s post. NSUI won the vice-president’s position.
The 2026 DUSU election featured a closely watched contest among ABVP, the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and the AISA-SFI alliance for the four central panel positions of president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary. The results are being determined through the ongoing counting process, with the shifting presidential lead keeping attention focused on the contest between Yash Dabas and Vijay Shankar Meena.
